Oncology Massage

What Is Oncology Massage?

Oncology Massage is a healing modality used as a complementary therapy in clinical and integrative care settings. Many hospitals, clinics, and cancer or wellness centers increasingly recognize the power of touch to promote health and well-being to their patients. Recent research is creating a new understanding of those benefits for people of all ages, from patients undergoing treatment for complex medical conditions to others simply wanting to alleviate stress.

Comfort, stress reduction and relaxation are some benefits of an oncology massage session. Whatever the specific goals, oncology massage is always safe.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is beneficial for patients with both primary and secondary lymphedema, as well as for post-operative care following cosmetic procedures like liposuction and functional surgeries such as joint replacements. MLD also serves as a full-body detox treatment on its own. Additionally, it is especially helpful for patients who develop secondary lymphedema due to breast cancer, other surgeries, radiation therapy, or conditions affecting the lower extremities.

Vodder® Certified Lymphatic Drainage

MLD is a specialized form of soft tissue mobilization that gently supports the lymphatic system in maintaining the body’s fluid balance, blood circulation, and immune function. This system’s network of vessels and nodes carries lymph, a fluid containing water, proteins, waste products, and other byproducts of cellular metabolism. Lymph nodes, which filter out debris, are distributed throughout the body, with particularly large clusters in the neck, axilla, and groin. These key collections of lymph nodes help ensure that lymph passes through multiple filtration points before returning to the circulatory system.

During a lymph drainage session, a certified, specially trained therapist performs a series of rhythmic, light motions over the client’s body. Applied without oil, these movements stimulate the lymphatic system without compressing the vessels, allowing lymph to flow efficiently through the tissues and lymph nodes.

A Vodder® Certified Therapist has undergone the most rigorous and thorough MLD training in the techniques first developed by Dr. Emil Vodder, Ph.D., MT

Therapeutic Massage

Massage, once seen as an indulgence, is now a recognized therapy for various painful conditions. Therapeutic massage can alleviate pain through several mechanisms, including relaxing tight muscles, tendons, and joints, reducing stress and anxiety, and potentially helping to 'close the pain gate' by stimulating competing nerve fibers and blocking pain signals to and from the brain. It is commonly used to treat conditions such as low back pain, neck and shoulder pain, and headaches. Additionally, I use therapeutic massage to address jaw pain, Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMJ), sciatica, and other related conditions.

Therapeutic Massage

Therapeutic massage is tranquil, soothing and simply unforgettable.
A massage need not leave you in pain to be effective. This treatment is the ideal antidote for a sore, stressed out you.
Its purpose is to help balance your sense of well-being by relaxing the body and relieving the mind. Normally administered with a mix of light to moderate pressure.
